Parliament Updates

Latest updates on Parliament’s work to check/challenge government, make/shape laws and debate/make decisions on the big issues of the day.

This week, MEPs call for the EU to support Colombia’s peace process and urge urgent action on Gaza’s “catastrophic” humanitarian crisis. They also want a bigger stand-alone post-2027 agriculture budget and new rules to reduce red tape for farmers and encourage environmental and social goals. They also back changes to the Package Travel Directive, to give travellers greater protection in the event of tour operator bankruptcy.

In the Commons, MPs quiz Yvette Cooper and Pat McFadden and debate property service charges and end-of-life care. They also choose their Opposition Day topic and the assisted dying Bill goes to Second Reading, while Peers consider the Victims and Courts, Employment Rights and Planning and Infrastructure Bills. The youngest minister in nearly two centuries makes his first appearance before a committee. The benefits of reading for pleasure are highlighted.
